Dutch DJ and producer Thrills in +41 delivers a 4-track EP on the new series Primal X within the label United Identities. True to its name, the series draws influence from primal energy on the dancefloor, derived from rhythm and repetition. Sonically, Primal X leans into sound palettes of the 90s and early 00s, polished off with quirky tweaks for a more modern touch. Thrills in +41 describes the vibe of the EP: "Nostalgia and futurism in electronic music has fascinated me a lot throughout the years as a producer and DJ, so I approached Primal X 01 with classic club and contemporary sounds in mind. When creating it, I aimed to build tension with dissonant sounds that cause a slightly anticipatory feel."

Reflecting this feeling from the first beat, 'In Time' opens with a swampy bassline and an acid-flecked synthline, nodding to classic techno, paired with heavily-distorted vocals that add a creepy layer. 'Pyro One' follows suit with woody percussion and sporadic synth notes, sparking an uneasy atmosphere.

The third track, 'Crooked Shapes' rumbles with pitched-down vocals supplied by the producer himself. A squishy melody seeps through the soundscape, complemented by snappy percussion—the perfect tool to ignite that primal mood on the dancefloor.
