Sammy Bananas, known mainly for his work on A-Trak's groundbreaking NYC label Fool's Gold flexes his versatility offering up 3 flavors of piano based, club ready dance tracks on his debut EP for Bastard Jazz, the "Piananana EP". The signature funky and quirky style which he developed over a decade of releases is still audible, but the material here is geared more towards foggy late night basements. "Non-Stop" is built around hypnotic, syncopated stabs which slowly grow into a bass heavy stomper, while "Thrilla" meets somewhere between Bmore and Hardcore while still staying in the pocket. "Finesse" is a hauntingly soulful groove with a snaking analog bass line and Parisian producer Hugo LX, fresh off an EP with DJ Spinna, rounds out the release with a reserved and enticing take on "Non-Stop."
