Travis Emmons was involved in three of our favourite deep house jams of 2021. The first two, "Dust Off" and "Legends Never Die", were the kind of moody, stripped back business we want to hear at six in the morning. The third, "Grapevine", the version of the classic he made with Trice Be and Brett Rubin, was, without doubt, one of the biggest tunes of the year. We heard this one everywhere, from hipster coffee shops to the main dancefloor at Night Tales London. In this single, "Redbone" - a version of the Childish Gambino song - he brings some of that universally-loveable deepness to GU. The beats sound like Nuyorican Soul-era MAW, the live bass & Fender Rhodes are straight out of the West-Coast deep house playbook, and the vocals sit on top like a heavenly chorus.
