Troublesome EP

RILEY (UK)

Short Circuit
SC04 | 2021-10-22
Short Circuit drops its 4th release this time coming from the UK’s fast up and coming talent RILEY, with a remix from the US’s James Wyler.
The young talented artist from Liverpool, UK, has previously released tracks on labels such as Issues, THUNDR, Overdose and Till? Records, since arriving on the scene at the end of 2019 with his debut release ‘Chapter 8’ on Overdose Records. His latest release Ready 2 Ryde on was released on Detlef’s new imprint Issues has garnered support from many across the scene.
RILEY’s debut release on Short Circuit typifies his sound. Cutting edge underground grooves with exquisite production. The first and title track on the EP is Troublesome. A low slung rolling bass line sets the tone for the track, before polished beats come in bringing the punch, which is all topped off with delicate incidentals and minimal percussion filling the gaps in the mix to deliver a large track that’s set to damage to floors around the world.
The second original on the EP is Full Effect, with its bouncing bassline creating the essential groove for the floor, adding some tripped out filtered atmospherics, before the crescendo of the break hits and drops to maximise hands in the air carnage on the floor. Then comes James Wyler’s remix of Troublesome. Wyler has had a slew of releases on forward thinking labels such as Whoyostro, Andhera, Fine Music and Rawsome Deep and now Short Circuit. For his remix he gives this a deeper more minimal flavoured take from the original, using a more growling sub bass, minimalist metallic percussion delivering a more after hours feel to compliment the package to perfection.
This is a very large release for the label, and for RILEY’s both now burgeoning reputations as one to watch for 2022.
