From his vast vaults of beats, he's put together his debut album for connoisseur's label Purple City Soufflé. With their open-minded psychedelic ethos, they provide the perfect platform for Jabru's deepest excursions. Although still very much present here, this album is less focused on uptempo bangers than many Jabru single releases and is the perfect showcase for his glorious unfolding beat narratives, his subtle way with melody, but above all his low down and dirty feel for a groove. For headphone voyagers, adventurous DJs or just a few people kicking back at a barbecue or block party.
Jabru has been around the block. He's remixed Rodney P, Roots Manuva, Jono McLeery, Si Begg, and Crystal Fighters, DJed the Hyperdub stage in a Croatian castle, at Glastonbury, Fabric, and Glade, done a Solid Steel mix that Ninja Tune's DK called "perfect", covered Amy Winehouse for Q Magazine, and had records signed by Optimo, Tom Middleton, Will Saul, Huxley, T.Williams, Hypercolour, DJ Die, and the Throne Of Blood, and Futureboogie crews. He's even had his own music remixed by such revered names as Joker, Zed Bias, and original members of the BBC Radiophonic workshop. As you might guess from all of that, this is a man of diverse talents.
In a former life the London born and Devon raised DJ/producer has deep roots in the UK hip hop scene, cutting, scratching and building beats for some of Britain's finest, and as an engineer helping to found one of the countries most respected and in demand vinyl mastering facilities. But it's been in the past five years that he's truly found his feet as a producer, exploring every possible facet of electronic funk, from deep and soulful house (especially in his collaborations with rising soul superhero Joel Culpepper, and with Hackman as Bruh Jackman) to footworking to broken beat, and everywhere in between, and his Doris Lessing-sampling "Tartarus 808" is steadily picking up appreciation as one of the most beautiful ambient tracks of the modern age.
