‘Stay’ was produced essentially with the DX7 synth, as a voluntary constraint to find the essence of a sound texture. The instrumental, at first very bare, held around a beat both straight and syncopated, takes all its measure by mixing with an expressive and haunting bass. Tim Atlas’ voice then appears as a memory, a whisper that opens and closes. A breath that carries hope and the expectation of a lament.
