After the rousing success of Panama Red’s previous release “Jazz Thing” from breakout UK house star J Fader, the label dives in the deep and funky end of the pool with a nuanced six-track affair featuring three originals from noted German producer Cancelore. The EP is rounded-out by three very diverse remixes from Martin L, Elpierro, and Panama Red’s own Antonio Caballero.
“Deep Care” is funky in all the right places with its warm, inviting bass line. The jazz chords and filtered synth pads to fill out the midranges are beautifully executed and the whole track exhibits organic, clean production skills that are unmistakable.
Martin L’s “Sexcreatures Mix” has all kinds of cool psychedelic animal noises with basic jazziness of the original underpinning a low-key late nighter with chugging drums and subtle melodic interplay.
The cleverly titled “Washin Deep Deep Dishes” combines the minimalism of early Chicago house with funky modern house and tech-house touches for dynamite results. Jackmaster Antonio Caballero, no stranger to a Chicago house vibe in his productions, takes the original and gives it a much funkier disco vibe while absorbing its trippy, psychedelic leanings making it much more pronounced.
The gem hiding on the b-side is the laid back midtempo funk of “Supa Sunny”, a Seventies Latin jam meets today’s nudisco explosion that is quite tasty. Skilled producer Elpierro slows the tempo even further and makes it in to the kind of leftfield funkiness that can really shake a dance floor up.
