Operating out of his hometown Tbilisi Georgia, determined and studious artist Tsotne Tabatadze, working under the moniker Verbindung, is ready to release the first EP from a project several years in the making. Sudden Infection EP is a culmination of Verbindung’s tireless dedication to the study and practice of music theory and sound design, along with his will to do it all on his own. Like many, it took Verbindung a long period of frustrated attempts to manifest the sound he had in his head, putting aside the DJ aspect he focused his efforts on studio production, constantly working on creating his unique style and sound, a sound which shows itself very clearly in this EP.
Sudden Infection EP is a masterful blend of experimental, industrial, melodic and acid techno sounds, displaying Verbindung’s many influences over his developmental years. The three tracks bring a very interesting and fresh take on the techno style, casting aside the rules on how many genres you can blend into one.
The first track, Sudden Infection, brings a disharmonic symphony of dark, experimental layers. The constantly switching beat underpins an array of atonal sound effects and ominous metallic textures with a wide grainy timbre that sounds both expansive and 8-bit.
This is followed up by Space Energy, a track that needs you to take a step back in order to hear everything going on. The sound is a dense forest of interacting bass waveforms that give the track it powerful thudding timbre, with Verbindung seeing the low-end dissonance that occurs not as a mixing hindrance but a creative tool. Mixing in an acidic 303 bassline is what gives this track its final layer of punchiness.
The EP closes off with Ehaas, a slow, cinematic crescendo building into a Slavic hardbass style kick and bass riff that emanates a loud and clear industrial image. A manic and tense rhythm intertwines with a ghostly piano melody and haunting vocal samples to create a monolithic buildup into a razor-sharp payoff of liquid and ethereal textures, moulded toget
