With the rise of the progressive house wave, Serbian scene witnessed a transformation of its urban sonic landscape. Following the techno domination in the late 90s, the underground of Belgrade was completely immersed in dark, tribal rhythms and seductive melodies of progressive in the next decade.
Upon arriving to the “white city”, Marko Nikolić started exploring the local clubbing scene. His musical voyage got off to a good start after coming on top of the young talent DJ competition, at the capitol's once renowned hotspot club Andergraund. Numerous residencies followed, as well as invitation to become a part of a new project called i:Face, one of the most successful booking agency is Serbia which managed progressive house artists like Federico Epis, Kintar & Rex, Tarkan, N-tchbl and many more.
Everything started unrolling for Marko at that point – his name started showing up on line ups at Belgrade’s high profile events. Regional tours, festivals and parties alongside Alex Niggemann, Hernan Cattaneo, Ramon Tapia, Metodi Hristov and Adam Freeland brought him closer to a wider audience, while frequent shows far beyond Serbian borders fired up the lights as he began to get recognized worldwide. As a big fan of podcasts in that time, Marko hosted his own radio shows at Frisky Radio, Pure FM, Danceradio Greece, Insomnia FM and EILOorg.
The deeper he got into music, the more he wanted to leave a mark in the world of music he so much adored. Marko’s personal sound imprint at that time was hypnotic house with a rich flavour of colourful melodies and brooding basslines which managed to get its way into the roster of Bit Records, Bonzai Progressive, Kansak Rec, Panda Recordings and many more with the recognition from the likes of Ian Pooley, Marcus Schultz, Chris Fortier, Nima Gorji and Hernan Cattaneo among other profilic artists.
Lately, Marko has been experimenting with house in all its forms via his Mark Myself pseudonym. At the moment, he is focused on a specific fusion of house, minimal and tech-house which became an already recognizable Mark Myself sound signature, flavoured with his dynamic and unique style of mixing. He also started with new project called “Profond” label/organisation in search of a perfect club night.
