DEFINITIVE RECORDINGS

About DEFINITIVE RECORDINGS

Founded in 1991 by John Acquaviva, Richie Hawtin and Karl Kowalski, Definitive Recordings is one of House Music's most enduring underground institutions. Originally conceived as the housier counterpart to Plus 8 Records, the label helped define the raw, funk-driven North American sound of the early 90s, delivering timeless classics such as "House 4 All" and "Do Da Doo" that continue to resonate across generations of DJs. After a successful digital-era resurgence in the 2000s, Definitive entered a new chapter in 2023 when Get Physical Music acquired and relaunched the full catalogue from Berlin. The revival began with carefully restored remasters and fresh reinterpretations of its seminal releases, reconnecting the imprint's legacy with today's dancefloors. Now re-established in the classical House cosmos, Definitive Recordings bridges heritage and forward-thinking energy, welcoming a new wave of artists including St. David, Mary Olivetti, Boogie Vice, N-You-Up, Simkid & The S.O.S and Dompe. Rooted in authenticity and driven by club culture, the label continues to honour its history while shaping the future of House Music.
