About SAM STEELE
With roots in Vancouver's queer underground, Sam Steele has become a fixture in Vancouver in recent years having held multiple residencies at major venues across the city and regularly serving up marathon six-hour sets marked by punchy rhythms, rolling basslines, and soulful, euphoric vocals - a signature sound that he describes as BIG GAY HOUSE.
Sam's mission with every dance floor he plugs into is to affect people's emotions in a positive way. His energy is one that allows people to lose themselves, or more importantly - find themselves.
With a formal musical education from Berklee College of Music, Sam went on to create the duo Diana Boss with production partner Josh McRae in 2014. Together they went on to release music on labels such as Westwood Recordings, Jungle Funk Recordings, NYLO Music, UFO Recordz, and Play Records among others. In 2020 they made their first international appearance at Yelapa Festival. Their music placements include the Netflix Original Japanese reality show "Terrace House" featuring their 2017 single "Simple Girl" and CBC's sitcom "Queens" featuring their 2017 single "Give Me Life feat. Quanah Style."
In early 2020 the decision was made to rebrand Diana Boss as Goddexx. The rebranding was a positive change for the Vancouver music scene, and for the duo personally; and one which inspired other artists to do the same. Riding a wave of new energy, Goddexx saw new releases on Westwood Recordings and theBasementDiscos, produced a string of singles for Canadian Drag superstar Scarlett Bobo, and cracked the Top 10 on another download site's Nu Disco / Disco Chart, Indie Dance Chart, and House Chart with their 2020 release "Make U Feel Good" on NYLO Music.
2021 saw the start of a fresh, self-titled, solo project for Sam Steele with debut solo releases landing on Cruise Music, Sollors Systems, and Vile Music; new weekly residencies at Vancouver's famed 1181 Lounge, Celebrities Nightclub, and the historic Hollywood Theatre; his continued residency on NYLO's Welcome To The Weekend heard around the world on DI.FM, and signing with Triple A Talent Agency.
2022 was a breakthrough year for Sam that saw him playing nearly 80 shows including debut appearances at Basscoast Music Festival, FVDED Music Festival, and LA Pride.
2023 is shaping up to be another breakthrough year with Sam already making his first solo international debut at Yelapa Gathering - the first of many festival debuts on the horizon. We can expect to see the first new original productions from Sam since his solo debut in 2021, productions that speak to his original love of House music, as he carries a renewed energy into the 2023 season.
