AL007 | 2011-05-20
Supported by: Nick Curly, Lee Curtiss, Solomun, D’Julz, Davide Squillace, Anja Schneider, Anthony Collins, Lauhaus, Alex Celler, Simon Baker, Glimpse, Ralph Lawson, Slam, Catz n Dogz, Alejandro Mosso, Dynamic duo Session Victim bring their understated house funk to air london in ‘Right From Wrong’ – an infectiously groovy track, effective in its simplicity and endowed with extra brawn in the remix courtesy of Greek producer Lemos. Eschewing the boundaries that the world of house music often presents, Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling aka Session Victim readily infuse their productions with elements of disco, soul, funk and even hip hop to ensure that they keep party lovers bouncing to their own brand of beat freakery. In this, their debut release for underground label air London, fast becoming a staple purveyor of off-kilter club grooves, the boys from Hamburg are sure to get the crowd wiggling with the tight rhythms of ‘Right From Wrong’ going the distance.Kicking off with the central funky guitar riff and bassline full of ambient shuffle, ‘Right From Wrong’ is a booty shaker through and through. Pan-pipes float into the looped grooves and at the mid-way point, muted soulful vocal snippets create the effect of crackling vinyl from the motown era albeit over the hushed build up and choppy beatdown of tech soul. The consistently excellent Lemos, a pioneer on the emerging Greek scene, makes a meatier meal out of the original with added claps, more vigorous bass, and an additional funky organ melody. It’s a killer rework that brings ‘Right From Wrong’ to a more rugged, peak time level without losing the track’s inner soul.
