Amsterdam's LET Recordings is back for a sixth release, titled 'Communication', this time by Jon Hester. Hester hails from Chicago and Minneapolis, and is now based in Berlin. EPs on Dystopian and Rekids SPX have established him with a loopy and hypnotic techno sound that fits perfectly with LET.
'Ritual' goes first and is built on a bed of high pressure tribal drums that really hammer home the groove. Fluttering snares peel off as the thing races along and the overall effect is one of mind-melting hypnotism. 'Telegraphic' is just as robust and streamlined, with tightly woven drums and percussion wrapping round each other and driving forward with real pace and force, again making you go deep inside the rhythm as a result. Last of all, 'Cypher' then ups the ante with pummelling and hammering drums down low, and edgy, unsettling sheets of coarse and glassy synths up top. It grows increasingly wild and unhinged and cannot fail to sweep up the floor and carry it away.
