A firm Snowboy favourite ! Kick-ass bugalu and 60s / 70s New York Salsa - Grupo X was formed by trombonist Jonny Enright as an off-shoot from the legendary salsa combo 'La Clave'. Using the raw-edged sounds of 60s and 70s Latin New York as a blueprint, Grupo X's soul-tinged Latin grooves signal the re-emergence of the feelgood jazz-room vibe of a Caister soul weekender.Grupo X has won acclaim for its performances at London's Jazz Cafe, tearing up the dancefloor with stomping original tunes. Grupo X has also become the unofficial house-band for the Jazz Café's 'Hi-Hat? club, backing U.S percussion stars Johnny Blas and Bobby Matos, vibes hero Dave Pike, Cuban piano legend Alfredo Rodriguez and Nu Yorican master-trombonist Jimmy Bosch. 'X-POSURE?, the debut album from Grupo X, (released February 12, 2001 on Loft Recordings) features 8 original tracks, including the hits 'Brand New Love', with soul-diva Lisa Millett (as featured on Ocho's 'Snowboy Presents the Hi-Hat? compilation), 'Jonny's Bugalu' and 'Mi Tumbao' (both of which appear on US label, Cubop's 'Viva Cubop II' album). 'Brand New Love' has received solid airplay on both Jazz FM and London Live and 'Jonny's Bugalu' has been played on Jazz FM.The album is a mix of instrumental and English-vocal Latin jazz, 60s and 70s New York salsa, and kick-ass bugalu. Many of the tunes are penned by Jonny Enright, with help from Jimmy LeMessurier, Carlos A.
