WotNot Music continue to highlight the people doing interesting things in dance music, joining forces with veteran Danny Clark to bring you four slices of rolling deep house.
When WotNot was still a twinkle in electronic music's eye, Danny Clark was already producing house classics. 2008's Wondrous featuring gospel legend Susu Bobien, with remixes from the mighty AFTC, David Penn and DJ Spen & The Muthafunkaz, has featured on compilations all over the world and was featured by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. Following this, releases from his label Solid Ground Recordings regularly featured in bestsellers lists (13 out of 14 hit Traxsource's top ten). Danny had established himself as a man with a great ear and plenty of talent.
In 2012, feeling uninspired by the sounds and scene around him, Danny sold Solid Ground and went back to his MPC origins, searching for a new style to reignite his passion for dance music. The fun came straight back and, hours and hours of samples later, this multi-layered form of gritty, rolling house came to be. With any four-bar loop containing up to 30 different samples, this EP is raw yet refined; unrestrained yet carefully structured; deeply entrenched in classic house roots yet forward looking.
Opening/title track Bleeding Gums pairs dreamy textures and floating bell sounds with slowly evolving rhythms, while the ethereal bell arpeggios on Monty's Skybiscuit go over layered rhythms to create a staggering movement. Looking Goodis more in the traditional deep house vein, syncopated stabs, swinging beat and vocal fx bringing a dancefloor feel. The more measured Sightseeing Tour Of The Moon closes the EP, with an insistent bass line pinning down warm chords, progressive arps and sloppy claps.
