INTENT001 | 2014-06-09
Gene Siewing - the St Louis DJ and producer now making serious waves in Berlin - kicks off the first release on his new label in fine style. Intent Recordings looks set to be a buy-on-sight operation, prizing quality over quantity, and on a mission to provide music aimed firmly at the dance-floor, whatever the genre. As such, it's the perfect outlet for Gene's own productions - a conduit for the grooving, funk ' n' disco infused house sound that he is fast becoming known for.

Intent 01 introduces us to the mouthwatering new Dropouts project- a collaboration between Gene and man-of-the-moment Max Graef - the young Berliner on everyone's radar after a string of exceptional releases. The streak continues on the Dropped Out EP - Gene and Max clearly had fun in the studio, riffing on their shared love of deep, grooving house music.

Cool-Track 42 sets out the tone - lush chords, a bouncy bassline, and crisp, rolling drums, offset perfectly with Gene's occasional vocals and Max's innate sense of dancefloor know-how. A true deep burner that will stay rooted in the bag for a long time.

The AA track is equally impressive - a mid tempo (108BPM) chugger that highlights Dropouts' true essence - a love for music with integrity and soul. A sweet vocal sample combines with Detroit-deep chords, firing percussion and a massive bassline. Raw and funky, soulful and uplifting, this is house music with intent.

Early support and play from Ed Davenport (Counterchange), Siriusmo ( Monkeytown) & Jan Driver (Grand Petrol)
