Nik Frankenberg ends his dry spell of original material with his "Gravitas" EP. Three new tracks, each following a different route to the dancefloor.
"Liveware Problem" is quite the opposite of an easy-to-blend DJ-tool, drastically changing the energy-level various times throughout its sprawling ten minutes and best digested from start to finish. Propelled by a cavernous bassline and sparse beats, it features several layers of analogue madness, both dark and melancholic.
"Sleeper Service" is a more linear and straightforward technostomper, eschewing sophistication for pure "lights off-strobe on" effect, before giving pads and cascading synths their spot in the limelight.
"Just Passing Through" is one of those tracks, that write themselves in record time and then sort of just manage to hang around until they're finished, leaving no memory of how exactly it all happened.
The track floats more than it pumps, contrasting percussion and rhythmic chords with moody drone-like synths.
