Smooth Lights makes a welcome return to Piston Recordings with the superb Every Day EP. After first stepping into production in 2012 and returning with renewed energy in 2022, Smooth Lights has released music on respected labels and draws on influences from the likes of Kerri Chandler, Gorge, The Timewriter and Masters At Work. The EP opens with the feisty, dancefloor-ready Every Day. Infectious chord stabs, a resonant deep bass and an upbeat energy drive a groove that’s built to get bodies moving. Take My Son Erick To The Disco follows, serving up a straight-up groover with a funky edge, where punchy kicks, plucky basslines and slick vocal snippets are tied together by catchy musical motifs. Closing the release, My House leans into a more soulful mood, led by a weighty low-end bassline and classic piano chords, while layered vocals create a smooth rhythmic flow that’s primed for rocking the floor.
