Since 2024, Sweeps and luv pug have quietly stacked eight releases with Chillhop Music, popping up across our Essentials compilations and Daydreams 3 while doing serious numbers without making a big fuss about it. Now they’re putting out their first full-length collaborative album, Oregon Coast. The idea is simple: a set of tracks to carry you somewhere else for a bit.
The album pulls from years spent driving through the Pacific Northwest, staring out at the lush coastline. The fog, the trees, the stretches of road that give you space to think. The album invites listeners into a calm, transportive space where instrumental music becomes a gateway to another place, another pace, and another state of mind. It's not always sunny skies (sometimes it’s rainy and gloomy) and that's exactly the point.
A lot of the track names reference real places in Oregon, but the instrumentals are open enough to leave room for interpretation. Distant yet familiar, like postcards from both faraway landscapes and locales right down the street. What evokes foggy beaches and winding highways for one listener may spark entirely different memories for another. The coast, in particular, left an impression on both Sweeps and luv pug. That mood runs through the album. This is music for getting out of your own head for a while. Stuff to listen to while you work, drive, or lounge around doing nothing particularly productive. Oregon Coast doesn’t try to force a feeling. It just gives you room for you, allowing whatever’s already there to settle for a bit.
Certain tracks help shape the record’s range. “Elk Creek” keeps things confined and steady, the kind of track that glistens in the background in the best of ways. “PCH”, meanwhile, lifts the tempo slightly, hinting at motion without overwhelming. “Multnomah Falls” leans more melancholic and reflective, while “Astoria” pushes into stranger territory, bending the sound just enough to keep things interesting. Each track carries its own mood and arc, offering listeners a sense of movement and discovery throughout the record. Taken together, Oregon Coast feels less like something comforting, that you return to as often as you can. An album meant to live in your headphones, your car, or your home, guiding you gently through the week, the month, or however long you choose to stay.
