'grief rituals' continues the deep exploration of emotion and space that began in the previous release, 'low ground.' While 'low ground' was a minimalist diary focused on the development of a single sonic idea, 'grief rituals' reveals sound as a rite of passage - a multilayered experience where internal metamorphosis and uncertainty become the foundation.
This is not escapism, but an immersion into the complexity of transitional states, where the listener is placed in a space that can neither be rooted nor left behind. Each track leads not to closure, but rather to a new state of anticipation.
The starting point for the EP was a gift from friend and mentor Dima Gudnichev (a member of the duo OTVAAL) - an analog synthesizer called 'Zvukovoy Ob'yekt 5' ('Sound Object 5'), given in the summer of 2022. This instrument quickly became a source of inspiration thanks to its ability to create living, unpredictable sonic textures. It was this synthesizer that led to the central idea of the album - the fusion of diverse elements, where traditional sample-based methods intertwine with improvisations on analog equipment.
