Canopy Records & London Afrobeat Collective present ‘My Way - The Kiko Navarro Remixes’ - released on all digital platforms 14th February 2025.
The 8-piece behemoth of a live band that is London Afrobeat Collective have teamed up with Canopy Records once again - and this time the Mallorcan DJ, Producer & label head, Kiko Navarro (Afroterraneo, Yoruba, BBE, Pacha), has come to take the helm.
This is the third in a string of singles which have showcased re-imagining of songs from the band's 4th studio album ‘Esengo’, which came out to critical acclaim last year on Canopy. The previous well received singles have featured remixes from Bosq, Voilaaa & Patchworks.
For this instalment Canopy & the band invited Kiko Navarro to serve up his vision of the storming afro funk track "My Way" and he has delivered two chunky dancefloor fillers with his customary class and sophistication, both with different approaches. No stranger to Canopy, Kiko is proving himself a mainstay of the label and here we get another wonderful example of his diverse palette & serious production chops, this time guiding us deep into late night afro disco territory.
First up is Kiko’s ‘Discoterraneo Remix’. Taking the vocals of frontwoman Juanita Euka (Strut, Tru Thoughts), the percussion of Richie Sweet (Oscar Jerome, Jorja Smith) and London Afrobeat Collective’s blazing horn section, Kiko maintains the spirit of the original tune while transmorphing it into an afro-disco-house beauty. The funky bassline & jazzy guitar licks played by fellow Mallorcan Tomeu Bosch are deftly blended with Kiko’s “Afroterraneo’’ style beats & synths, culminating in the perfect compliment to the uplifting spirit and vibe of the band. It’s certain to brighten up any party, anywhere, any time.
Following up is Kiko’s ‘Cosmic Dub’, which delivers a more driving and other worldly departure. An insistent synth line transports you to somewhere far off planet while the vocals are stripped back to ultimate effect, chanting defiantly, as the track builds to a swirling crescendo of afro percussion, disco/house beats and nebulous pads.
Both remixes released on all digital platforms on 28th February 2025.
