We are delighted to welcome Stevo Atambire to the label. "Anchor Point," his seminal Afro-house cut with Ahmed Spins, released on the scene-setting Moblack label, is one of our favourites in the genre. "Sawo" sees Italian DJ/production duo Matyan hit the ground running with an incredible first release, collaborating with Stevo and Kevin McKay. "Sawo" is a Frafra word that the cowboys in the upper east of Ghana Bolgatanga use. The literal meaning is "Rain go away", but when you understand that they shout this after a long rainy season (sometimes lasting six months) when they can finally let the cattle free, you start to understand the feeling. When you translate the other lyrics, "Welcome to the season of happiness, we're here to dance," you can see why this authentic West African theme works so well over a house groove. Stepping up on production, Matyan and McKay deliver a hypnotic rhythm section with ethnic percussion and slow-burning bass. Steve's raw, neo-griot vocals ride majestically atop the groove, creating a future Afro anthem. If you like the recent Stones & Bones on Ancestral Nights, this is for you.
