Last Minute

Elias Erium

Phenomena
PHM024 | 2024-08-09
Phenomena opens the summer season with a new EP from label boss Elias Erium. Montreal based sound architect Elias Erium has developed a distinct brand of progressive house and techno. Aptly titled, EP opener ‘Last Minute’ was recorded at the eleventh hour, the night prior to Elias’ gig at Montreal’s infamous îLESONIQ festival last summer. As a highlight of the set, the Canadian’s keen sense of dancefloor dynamics held true once again. A slow burn beginning ultimately sets the pace, tactfully building anticipation as arpeggiated sequences and astral melodies fall like rain-drops, atop titanic kick drums, chunky grooves and finely tuned percussion, for an all out main room assault.

Beneath the thunderous waves of ‘Last Minute’ lies the stark melodic qualities of ‘Ripper’. Its seven-minute running time sets you adrift in sonic qualities that are both prophetic and wide-ranging. Crystal-like artifacts and looping vocals engulf your attention whole, creating a panoramic rollercoaster backed by weighted beats and billowing basslines. Erium’s melodic craftsmanship reveals itself further across the break, tactfully building against a backdrop of icy glitches and rolling percussion, pushing onwards to an anthemic finale to round out the EP on an epic note.
