We welcome Belgian DJ and producer Vicky Kristine to Bonzai Progressive, who takes us into 2024 with her debut cut entitled ‘Demons EP’. A talented artist hailing from the picturesque Belgian Ardennes, Vicky was immersed in the vibrant sounds of the nineties during her formative years. Her musical journey took a compelling turn as she fell under the spell of synthesizers and delved passionately into the works of iconic artists such as Chemical Brothers, Vitalic, Faithless, and Soulwax. These influences continue to resonate profoundly with her, complemented by a diverse palette that includes Skatebard, Chloé Caillet, Boys Noize, Ejeca, Denis Sulta, and a myriad of others. On the DJing front, her dynamic mixes have graced venues across the country, including notable spots like Bivouac, Café des Halles, Pathé Palace, Altaar Festival in Hasselt, and Rock’Olmen. Notably, she was featured on the lineup for this summer's City Parade in Mons, showcasing her talent to a broader audience. Her presence extends beyond borders, with regular appearances at the esteemed Gudde Wellen in Luxembourg - a renowned club that has hosted many great jocks. Her contributions to the electronic music scene mark her as a rising star, blending nostalgia with contemporary influences to create an electrifying sonic experience for her audience.

With three tracks on offer in this EP, we begin with the fantastic ‘My Own Demons’ which intros with a flurry of energetic activity including pulsating beats and a chugging bassline. Melodic synths come through, adding melancholy and intrigue to the groove. The main break throws down a beautifully serene sequence of pads and poignant voices against a backdrop of rolling basses and cinematic snares before climaxing into the final act. ‘Strong Element’ is up next, opening with a gritty bass synth accompanied by a rolling riff. Chunky beats take over as tension mounts before cool spoken vocals are introduced into the narrative. Trancey synths fade up, creating anticipation and a touch of euphoria which takes us to the break where ethereal pads, plucky leads and breaks build up to the drop and into the finale. ‘Inner Voices’ rounds out the release, maintaining the dancefloor prowess and infectious storytelling of the previous tracks. An emotive experience filled with enticing voices and airy melodies. A tough rolling bassline dominates with note changes enhancing the sonic flair of the groove. The break reveals a softer, vulnerable side of the groove before that main bassline returns, building us up on an emotional rollercoaster before an energetic finale closes the track.
