On the latest Dub-Stuy riddim release, Von D turns up the horns and roots vibes in a nod to early 2000s dancehall Dub-Stuy's riddim series is a nod to tradition, albeit with a modern twist, as the label teams up with a producer to feature different vocalists voicing a single riddim. Thus far, the series has featured updates of classics as well as new anthems in the making. The Saga Riddim is the latest in the series and finds French producer Von D revisiting his 'Dancehall Saga' single, which was released by Dub-Stuy in 2019, in the spirit of the early 2000s conscious dancehall classics (from labels like XTerminator and Greensleeves). The potent bass weight is balanced by Von D's always-on-point use of live musicians-guitar, keys, and horns-elevating the track to spiritual heights. To fully recapture the vibes, the riddim is paired with vocal turns by singers from that early 2000s era. Chukki Starr, Chezidek, and Jah Mason each bring their own unique stylings, riffing on uplifting messages of unity in the face of oppression. As always, the release includes the instrumental version, this time with a horn-filled dub twist from Von D. Mastered by Bristol legend Joker for that extra punch.
