Craft Music
Moscow’s Max Bett falls under the spotlight for the latest release from Craft Music, following on from an EP last year on legendary electro/tech label Different (Agoria, The Hacker etc.) and one on Madrid’s Zero Urban this year.
Something Like This is for fans of deeper yet bouncy techno grooves, with delicate plucked synth chords prancing atop hip-shaking percussion and a rubbery bassline. The breakdowns bring growling bass, dark suspense and rousing swells, while throughout deft little effects, clever automation and subtle little sounds are woven into the mix to ensure that there’s never a dull moment in this addictive track’s seven-minute lifespan.
Everybody is cool little groover, energetic beats and bass tempered to just the right level to give a driving yet never overpowering feel. Rolling hat, shaker and snare rhythms are interlaced with a seriously funky, potentially menacing bassline, while little FX and percussive flourishes decorate the perimeter. The spooky, tremolo-heavy bleeps in the breakdown create a delicate, eerie atmosphere, that works a treat with the main meat of this demure roller.
