Dutch talent Secnd returns to NoZzo Music for a full label debut with his 'Pop Up Shot' EP.
Following several impressive showings on previous NoZzo Music releases, Netherlands-based DJ/Producer Secnd is back on Tomi & Kesh's increasingly popular label outfit with his first solo EP, enlisting Miami's Slugg on remix duties for the b-side, 'Get Groovy'.
Kicking things off with the title cut, 'Pop Up Shot' comes in hot with an onslaught of percussive-heavy tech flavours. Building around weighty rolling drums and a huge sub-bass melody, its bright textures, vocal shots and subtle melodies pave the way for an ebb and flow of upbeat terrace vibes from start to finish.
'Get Groovy' comes next, serving a slightly stripped-back persona with an emphasis on (you guessed it) groove. Swaying rhythms bounce over the top of resonant harmonies and playful vox chops to carve out a silky underground vibe-builder.
Slugg follows up with his spin on 'Get Groovy', turning in a jazzier, chunkier rendition of the original, flooded with endless layers of nonchalant percussive drive. Orbiting a centrepiece saxophone sample, it's a show of sophisticated class from the word go.
'Tell You' closes the release with another stripped-back dancefloor-pleaser. Another combo of crisp drums and rippling percussive playfulness combines with a rolling bassline and tonal injections throughout to deliver an endlessly danceable mood-setter.
