The joint Welsh-Japanese combo that is The Boogie Brothers initially bonded over Nana Mouskouri's lost psychedelic period: many mellow months have been spent hunting down dust-filled two-inch tapes of her time in Marrakech with Paul Bowles and Ernie Wise - essential research that has seeped back in to the Boogie Brothers sound. Here they offer up two sparkling tracks: the disco-jazz odyssey of Sunshine Slowdown and the twisted library bump and roll of Freaky Francis. Nana's wild and voracious spirit hovering somewhere in the background, smiling benignly.
Secret Soul Society meanwhile continue their on-going tour of the beaches of the Gower peninsula: setting up on whichever tract of sand looks like it may offer respite from the gusty coastal elements. Two tracks from them too: more disco thrills with Saturday Night (perfect for a Monday morning cuppa) and samplesoul-ology courtesy of the title cut. Pops Neon then dons his souwester for a stripped back reversion: one for the afterhours parties for sure.
Five tracks, five slices of pan-global beat-foolery. What's not to like...
After all, Nana knows best, right?
