‘The Storm’ is a tribute to the lush strings and sentiments of uplifting Detroit techno with Justin Berkovi’s unique twist. Berkovi shows his versatility as a techno artist here with a very deep and melodic set of tracks - it was one of the most popular Predicaments releases over 20 years ago. The EP also moved into a more slick production style rather than the more abrasive Djax up sounds Berkovi had become known for.

Things start with a hard bassline driven tonal number in ‘Dark Clouds’ with sprinkling percussion floating over a driving midrange bassline.

The title track ‘The Storm’ is typical quirky Berkovi. A jittery ‘Alien Christ’-like bassline is accompanied by the signature ‘storm’ fx. Chords take over, injecting the first melodic departure, the bassline returns and then in a wonderful moment everything just gives way to the haunting warm pads that permeate the track thereafter. A master craftsman at work!

Satin throws down the Detroit vibes - pounding 909 kicks, claps and powerful thick strings keep things moving.

As usual it seems, electro or just downright weirdness rounds things off. Berkovi recorded some friends in Tokyo and hooked up his Korg Electribe to produce ‘Thick Static’ to close.
