ana wares follows up her debut release Saturn Return EP with her new
single, Sonarcotic out via Melbourne's Lo-Fi-45 Recordings.
Demonstrating her lyrical and vocal prowess in this one, she has a knack
for making music that encourages you to get lost in her rich melodies.
As she puts it, "Tune in and tune out".
The single is a blissful, resonant piece with gorgeous leads that
interweave creating counterpoint harmony. Lingering chimes ring out and the warm, incandescent feel stays with you, leaving a lasting echo of an impression long after it has finished sounding. Designed for lush and zoned out sets, this track shows off anas real playing chops, rare knack for meaningful melody and exquisite compositional skills.
The title, "Sonarcotic" is a portmanteau of sonar- stemming from a sound
in the piece the artist created that reminds her of marine mammals such
as whales communicating using such transmissions, and narcotic -
referring to the idea that the effect of music on the brain is akin to a
drug. Although the lyrical content is reflective of themes of social
behaviour, the words "Round and round and round, we merrily go. We're just blind, leading blind leading blindly, all follow," can also relate
to being unconsciously led by a higher force and this concept can be
just as true of music as it can of human nature.
As well as an instrumental that removes the robust chorus of layers of
the artist's own voice, the remix comes from Kaymid, alias of Kasey
Taylor- world renowned DJ, Producer, Label Head of Vapour Recordings and eVapour8 as well as Lo-Fi-45's Founder in Chief. His interpretation
follows a different chord progression, with a lighter, quirky house
touch and this all works to sooth mind, body and soul as the curious
drums roll on endlessly. His wordless instrumental places more focus on
the striking musicality of the track.
