Turbo Recordings presents the debut EP from Nautiluss, an alpha-male marriage of UK bass and Canadian techno vibes.
Nautiluss is the alias of Toronto-based producer Graham Zilla, also known as half the indie electro-pop group Thunderheist, and his transition into the techno world has been seamless. Already championed by Martyn and Untold - who put out Nautiluss' collaboration with Skywave on his Hemlock imprint - and fresh off an excellent remix for ZZT, he's probably the closest any new Canadian artist comes to fitting into the new-school UK bass techno scene.
The four cuts on this release alternate between grinding-on-the-ocean-floor bass accentuated by big-room techno rhythms ('Mixed Numbers', 'Sabbath'), and more lifestyle-friendly explorations of the House that Poseidon Built ('Cloud City', 'Spidecrawl'). It's a fresh, exciting sound executed with the kind of skill that has caught the ear of big club DJs, as well as hard-to-please authorities like the organizers of MUTEK.
Turbo is currently experiencing a period of rejuvenation and, at the same time, maturation. We're locking down a new generation of young techno talent, while overcoming our long-held skepticism of anything to come out of Toronto, or not-Finland. If you've got the 'electronic dance music goods', we'll gladly take them down to the marketplace, no matter where the seeds were sown.
