A fixture of Chicago’s underground scene - Brad Miner’s style and personality will live on via his unique productions. His musical pedigree goes back to piano lessons from his grandmother. The next twenty years saw him playing orchestra trumpet through high school and college and bass guitar with Chicago indie rock darlings - Office. It was his connection to a burgeoning underground electronic music scene with like-minded partners at a small Michigan college that paved the way for collaborations and extraordinary musical productivity. In a Chicago scene saturated with talent, his productions and performances still managed to shine.

Approaching the music with an outsider’s ear, his music often found enthusiastic engagement years after the writing. His initial vinyl release (a 2 track 12” EP written for German techno label First Cut under the pseudonym ‘Quarry’ cat# FC004) has found a rabid following and high resale value for DJs appreciating the funky minimalism nearly 15 years later. The label issued its only re-press to date of Brad’s record, in an attempt to keep up with the demand for these tracks on wax.

Due to record labels of the time chasing current trends, he often found himself at odds with A&R and challenged to find outlets for current material. It was Chicago’s Zuvuya Record’s head Gabriel Palomo that had the vision to release his second formal release, along with a storming collaborative effort with label mate Lee Chameleon.

In the meantime Brad refined his live PA of 100% original music and performed in marquee underground contexts with production companies illmeasures (2000 - present, co-founder) and later the legendary underground event host The Freakeasy (2008 - 2020, co-founder).

With great honor and reverence Housepit CHI Records presents the archival work of illmeasures and Freakeasy co-founder Brad Miner.
