The eighth instalment from Liberta Records comes from Brazilian artist K.A.L.I.L. ‘Compensate’ is a three-track release which marks a turning point for both the imprint and the artist who is currently the first producer signed to Vinicius Honorio’s label for an exclusive release, as all previous Liberta material has been solely created by Honorio.
With a strong body of work on Noir Music, Senso Sounds, and Filth on Acid, K.A.L.I.L’s debut EP on Liberta illustrates a more brooding side to his sound. Branching out from the Brazilian electronic music circuit with tour dates in Australia and Europe this year, the likes of Carl Cox have supported K.A.L.I.L’s productions, boosting his profile further leading to well-due international recognition.
‘Another Level’ introduces the EP, a rolling production that follows a hypnotic groove paired with a menacing vocal to create an ominous atmosphere. The second track ‘Compensate’ follows the same moody aesthetic but is layered with drone-like percussion which weaves in and out of the track, simmering with a murky energy throughout. ‘Perceiver’ completes the release, a weighty production with another foreboding vocal combined with thumping percussion to wrap up the EP’s seismic tone.
