Hotknife vs Mister Tee's debut release is an auspicious beginning for the Scottish duo, delivering a pair of jackin and disco house tracks that beckon you to the dance floor with funky flair.
'My mission is simple,' says Hotknife. 'Make some funky shit to get down to in the club.' The two tracks included on this single, Can't Get Enough and Higher, have set a high production standard for all his future tracks.
On the title track, Hotknife goes for some big orchestral and brass-like stabs to ram home the 1-2-3 bass hook. 'Something I borrowed from disco,' he says, 'but I staggered the hits so they were more syncopated, creating a fitting garage-type feel in amongst my usual disco-house vibe.'
'With Higher, I really wanted to create an up-to-date disco sound,' he explains, 'like Nile Rodgers gone house.'
Layered with the soul-filled vocals of Mister Tee, Can't Get Enough and Higher bring novelty to familiar musical tropes. Hotknife and Tee deliver electro soul for the masses, the perfect music to make you get up to get down.
