The latest release on Habits Records sees Kreutziger Kollektiv deliver a four track (2 originals and 2 remixes) EP which is indicative of them at their potent best. 'To The Loop' is a case in point; Timeless and classy, it's a track that emphasises the duo's ability to conjure up thrilling dancefloor-focused sounds.
'Set Me Free' is the other original on show here. A whimsical cut full of spiky percussion and filled with flair aplenty, it draw parallels with the sort of top grade tech house that emerged from London in the mid 90s. More banging than its predecessor, this one's roots can be traced back to vintage electro planes, with the influence of Juan Atkins and Cybotron very much evident here. A spiky, well-heeled track that also goes deep in search of kicks, it gets us underway in quite sumptuous fashion.
The first of the remixes comes at us from London duo, The Willers Brothers. The pair have been picking up steam aplenty in recent times, with a sound aesthetic and a way of working that's not dissimilar to Kreutziger Kollektiv's. Their remix of 'To The Loop' rips up the rulebook in quite emphatic fashion, as they turn in a peak-time, uptempo mix that's far removed from the original. Nonetheless, though the boys use sparse parts, they too enhance their credentials courtesy of a top notch banger that's set to decimate any dancefloor.
Concluding the release is the sounds of Habits boss Billy Rath, who turns in a deceptively subtle reinterpretation of 'Set Me Free'. A canny deep house tool that pays homage to the original in quite excellent fashion, it's a well thought-out remix that's never lacking in refinement. An all-round thrilling collection of tracks, Kreutziger Kollektiv's latest release is nothing if not an auspicious one.
