Dear Deer are back after a fine run of hot EPs with a full elegant release from Teologen. Entitled Ritural Turmoil, it features 10 tracks of dramatic and atmospheric tech house.
Teologen calls himself 'a modern shaman; theologian and producer' and makes spiritual dance music. He has done so on labels like Runemark before now and really shows off his skills here on an album that takes you on a real trip.
Concealed Desire Project opens things up with shuffling, deep drums and a delicate lead synth that makes your mind wander. Dervishualize then brings an emotive vocal to textured drums as a mournful bassline underpins the grooves. Little Warrior is a darker track with menace in the syncopated drums and thunder in the claps and Stay The Course is a spaced out track with hymnal chords and more intimate vocals that really casts a spell.
That perfect mix of emotional male vocals and moody drums and keys continues on Supervision and the second half of the album offers the same tracks but as dub versions, so the vocals are removed and the focus is more on the warm, deep drums and melodies.
This is a well crafted album that works both at home as well as in the club.
