Karmaya & Yoru

Rafael Cerato

Dear Deer

Rafael Cerato is a regular on the Dear Deer Records label and now after a collaborative release last time out returns with his own solo EP. His two originals come backed with a fine set of remixes from big hitters Robert Babicz, Dorian Craft, B.K.R. and Onur Ozman.

Karmaya is first and is seven spiritual minutes of tense house music with lush chords. Chanting vocals bring an exotic feel and help make this one a special track that really stands out. The B.K.R. remix is deeper and more twisted, with writhing synths bringing late night colour and mischief to the mix. Dorian Craft then layers in his own dramatic synth work and makes it in an epic melodic house cut with real drama in the chords. It's then over to Onur Ozman who reworks the track into something a little more tech inclined, with metallic hits and spraying synths bringing texture and tension to the beats.

Then it's another Rafael Cerato original with Yoru offering sublime soft acid vibes and rolling drums. It's a molten, supple track that works on the mind as well as the feet. The esteemed Robert Babicz then remixes it into a slow burning but textured track that bubbles with gurgling synths and slick drums. It's a spaced-out way to finish off another excellent EP.
