On our latest offering we are very pleased to welcome Chris Marcinkiewicz, better known as The GOAT, as he makes his UNT Records debut.
Looking up The GOAT might not bring up a lot of results for music, but Chris is definitely no stranger to writing it. Growing up playing in Punk and Metal bands grew the foundation of what would later turn out to be instrumental in the foundation of his current music under his alias as The GOAT. After debuting his very first EP 'Flout' as on Substation Recordings which featured tracks that reached into the Top100 Techno and Top10 Minimal charts on Beatport, Chris has spent the last 2 years releasing quality music across a few different Canadian labels. This work has solidified himself as another very talented artist in a long list of excellent Canadian talent.
The title track 'Live Right Now' is the groovier of the two tracks on the EP. It is both melodic and soft, yet driving and dark. Cleverly using clear stabs in the foreground washing out into pads in the background as other sounds creep in, the depth in the overall sound is beautifully managed by the balance between dark and uplifting elements. This is a great track that can be used in a long set when things start to get a little darker.
Enter... 'Distilled'. This is a track that doesn't try to hide anything. It's raw and it's heavy. It's that kind of track that you play at the warehouse afterhours when only the red lights are on, accompanied by a single slow blinking strobe. We've all been there. Where the title track makes good use of depth, this track uses an insane amount of width. Filled with straight and arpeggiated synth stabs, these sounds overlap seamlessly and grow from seemingly nowhere, to fully grabbing your attention as they bounce around the speakers strobing left to right and back again. Every sound in this track is on purpose and its strength is in its simplicity. Less is definitely more, a concept that Chris clearly understands.
