Griffintown Records stride on with another faultless house EP, this time from Lee
Jeffrey featuring a fine remix from Rich Wakley.
This solid label comes from the people behind Mile End and is one that supports the
best house producers out there. UK star Jeffrey is one of those producers and has
established himself and his sound on respected labels like Cr2, VIVa and MadTech.
He is resident at long running night Deja Vu—which also gives its name to his own
label—and has played everywhere from Mint Festival to Elrow, so is a proven player
in the house scene.
Opening his account here is the rock solid ‘Disconnecton,’ which has rolling kicks and
sharp hi hats setting the mood before big skewed synths and tumbling bass bring the
funk. A classic sounding vocal amps things up further, meaning this one is sure to get
hands in the air and dancefloors writhing.
Remixing is another artist with house music in his blood, and that’s Rich Wakley, a
regular Beatport Chart topper and globe-trotting DJ with credits on Off, Mile End,
Avotre, Suara & Roush and support from Radio 1 regularly incoming. His version is
quicker and more urgent, with huge hi hat ringlets and energetic stabs amping up the
energy levels and really blowing the roof off.
Jeffrey then offers the lush ‘Night Cry’ which takes things down a notch with a smooth,
warm and driving deep house cut that oozes soul. Again great vocal samples add a
sense of timeless appeal and this is another one to get the floor going crazy. The jazzy
‘Jack’s Place’ rounds out his rich EP with great chords, busy drums and a late night
sense of colour and cool that comes finished with irresistible sax stabs.
This is pure and unadulterated house music that is impossible not to love.
