After two solid releases to kickstart the label, DPE is back with a fresh new EP to tantalise your senses. This time we have a collaboration EP from Brazilian artist Rods Novaes who delivers two tracks together with fellow Brazilian artist Arthus and a third track with regular production counterpart Wender A. Together they present a stand out release which delivers a lesson in the art of funky minimalism.
On Tibrutia, Rods Novaes and Arthus create a subtle groover which oozes effortless style across a timeless aesthetic. The track is deceptively captivating in it’s presentation as the pair use a deep bouncing groove to lock you in while the track breathes and evolves around it. They have managed to create something truly magic through the restraint of the groove and way in which the background elements tie everything together in such a hypnotising manner.
Up next is Arapuca, a second collaboration between Rods Novaes and Arthus. In Arapuca the pair present another vibe based record, this time with a bouncing beat and a tom driven groove. The interplay between the low end drums and deep sub provide a pushing energy to the track and the shuffling hats bring added pace and excitement to the track. The track is masterfully atmospheric and evocative while still maintaining an ultra cool restraint and style.
Finally we come to the Rods Novaes and Wender A. collaboration, Intergalatico. Right from the outset you can hear how comfortable these two producers are working together through the cohesive nature of this funky floor burner. They combine analog sounds with open and organic percussion on the beat and a pumping sub bass to deliver a groove that sucks you in right from the first beat. An evolving vocal and pairing of raw synth hooks are added to the sonic palette as the track is elevated through subtle effects and masterful manipulation of the groove.
