Groovestyle is the alias of the Chicago producer Eric Miller, more famously known as E-Smoove. E-Smoove worked for a number of years with Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley before releasing ‘Insatiable’ which would be a #1 hit in the US Dance Chart. First released back in 1994, Groovestyle’s ‘Freedom Train’ uses the sound of a stream train over rolling bass and an inspirational vocal sample, while ‘Love’ goes in a different direction, offering dreamy Rhodes piano and a crisp 909 drum loop, the formula for a great house record. The Tribal Mix of ‘Love’ strips back the track for a more club-ready hit, much like the D Boogies 4 Change mix of ‘Freedom Train’ from Derrick Carter, packing a heavier punch than the originals. Both ‘No Ears’ edits are courtesy of Rob Mello, intensifying the train samples and giving the record a nervous energy.
