Simon is best known as a key member of DiY , the Nottingham-based collective responsible for some of the best parties and club nights this country has ever seen. As a DJ Simon is now seen by many as a truly pioneering figure in forging the dubbed-out style that has become the UK midlands house sound. In the early 90's, while many DJs were speeding their tunes up and drum'n'bass was evolving from the hardcore scene, Simon was forging a reputation for playing slower, vocal and bluesy US-house and garage dubs, a style that DiY honed with their labels Strictly 4 Groovers and DiY Discs. It is a testament to the quality of his musical selection that rare recordings of these early parties are still seen as gold dust by many who attended them.
As well as attaining legendary status as a DJ Simon has also racked up an impressive catalogue of releases as a producer, working in various collaborations under several aliases such as Mayo, DiY, Overview and Sandmen . This EP is a collection of long-lost tunes, one of which is a collaboration with the most excellent Charles Webster. All the tracks are over fifteen years old, recovered from DATs and hard-drives and digitally remastered for your listening pleasure.
