The aesthetics belonging to old-school house music have long played a pivotal role in the make-up of Claude Monnet's SSOH imprint. That should come as little surprise to ardent observers, not least because the label was actually founded back in the mid 90s, a time when true, soulful house music was at its zenith.
A similar approach to the genre has long been SSOH's modus operandi, and if the label's latest inclinations are anything to go by, they're in as fine a fettle as its ever been. SSOH63 sees French upstart AXEL FOWLEY take control, with the "ESO ES EP" proving an enticing insight into his knack for churning out grooves of a classic persuasion. Draped in some canny percussive tools and with a restless swagger at its core, the tracks bump and grind and picks up engrossing sounds on the way, with its off-kilter synths and particularly, their ethnic vocals, helping to lend it a tangible human edge.
Rough, raw and most definitely ready for the floor, this ep is a seriously effective slice of house music that discerning types are sure to revel in!
