1980 Recording may not be know to the mainstream but mention the name to many of the underground people of the music industry and they will know it.

1980 Recordings is the brainchild and baby of Dan McKie. Dan McKie has been producing music and touring as a DJ for 20 years now. He has remixed & produced the likes of Beyoncé, Solange, Kelly Rowland, The B-52's, as well as remixing the mainstream with his own unique underground style he has always kept close to his underground roots with a plethora of underground remixes and original productions. He is also a seasoned touring DJ which has seen him hold down residencies in Barcelona, London, Andorra & the prestigious Ibiza, as well as visiting different corners of the earth on his tours. Dan McKie is one of the genuine & friendliest music industry professionals in the music industry today (yes they do exists).

1980 Recordings was started when Dan McKie was an A&R scout for the now defunct but well know Gut Records in London. He was receiving many demos but he did not have an outlet, so he established 1980 Recordings in 2007.

Since starting the label the label has helped the careers of the likes of Fehrplay, Bart B More, Tim Andresen, Matt Samuels, Abigail Bailey, Luca Lento, Filip Le Frick, Steve Haines, Will Clarke to name but a few.
The label is a multi genre label but always staying true to the underground 4/4 sounds. The label has release everything from electro, progressive, deep tech, deep house, pure house music, disco house, tech house & techno.
1980 Recordings has grown from strength to strength over the 10 years of existence with support on their music from Eric Prydz, Marco Carola, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez, Danny Howard, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Monki, Rob Da Bank, Vanilla Ace, Shiba San, Sister Bliss/Faithless and many more. One notable fan of the label is Fatboy Slim, he included the track, 'Dan McKie - Arabian Robots (Dan McKie Fish Don't Dance Remix)', in his Mixmag cover CD in 2011, of which he likened the track to something that Leftfield would be proud of. Most recently Claude Von Stroke supported 'Dan McKie & Sterbai - The Sinner' on his Radio 1 Essential Mix.

The label has no plans to slow down with many compilations, artist EP's, it's infamous 4/4 EP series, plus future Dan McKie releases. As well as pushing their label night & radio show Fish Don't Dance which is currently aired on Barcelona City FM (Weekly) & Pioneer DJ Radio (Monthly).

The last 10 years have been a very fragrant & steady learning curve but 2017 looks like it will be the year for this label with special releases planned.
