Biotop proudly welcomes a promising new artist to the family: Mike Starr. Well known for his quality productions and remixes for labels such as BPitch Control, Casual Lab, and LOK Recordings, his debut on Biotop is a beautiful EP replete with classic Detroit and Chicago vibes: low chordal stabs, deep atmospheric pads, hypnotic arpeggios, and carefully constructed rhythms, all wrapped up succinctly by the beat-driven Thomas Stieler rework.

The idea behind the Breakout EP was to break out of Mike's own false sense of comfort. The tracks Breakout, Change, and First Light represent artistic growth, harnessed organically with total musical freedom of expression. Most of the core elements of each track were laid down on the same day, utilizing studio time throughout the past year both in Berlin and his UK hometown, where inspiration resonates most strongly for him. It's in these moments where one can appreciate Mike's focus to block out distractions and doubt, with the flow and feel of the three tracks complementing each other fittingly. Translating emotions are Mike's core aim, and he succeeds with a deep and meaningful EP as his new dawn with the Biotop family.
