Conundrum (Incl Danny Krivit & Phil Asher Restless Soul Mixes)

Tim Landslide and Don Freeman

Sick Trumpet
ST002 | 2006-10-13
As the dust settles on Sick Trumpets first release, we now have the pleasure of working with two of the most talented cats on the block, Landslide and Don Freeman. Oh, and some fella called Phil Asher has delivered the remix. As soon as you hear the opening synth riff of Conundrum you will be deep into this. Landslides trademark two-step beats provide the canvas, while Dons evocative portrayal of the femme fatale toying with his mind provide the paint for this work of sonic art. Landslide is famous for his work on the consistently inspiring Hospital Records. Their first signing, and a part of drum n bass best live act London Elektricity, he is renowned for that rare commodity in dance music, original thinking. A perfectionist through and through, Tim is one of the most exciting producers in London, and is able to flirt with the broken, garage and drum n bass scenes without ever committing himself to one sound. If you gave Don Freeman an autograph book in the early 70s and got him to collect signatures from all his collaborators, you would have a few choice ones in there. Amongst the names you would find after years in the business would be Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, George Duke, Bill Withers, Sergio Mendes, and even Robert Palmer. Born and bred in Philadelphia where his session work with the architects of sweet soul and disco, Gamble and Huff, led to him releasing his own work on their legendary label Philadelphia International, Don is currently enjoying a richly deserved renaissance. On the flip side is the Restless Soul mix from Phil Asher and friends. The tempo is that little bit slower, the vibe smoother, but the passion still there in this sublime slice of broken house. Phil Asher is one of the lynchpins in the frighteningly talented West London scene, and is deeply respected by house heads and jazz bods alike. On keys is non other than Pete Kuzma, a big player in Jazzy Jeffs A Touch of Jazz production team. Hes worked with all the neo-soul heavyweights, including being Jill Scotts musical director. I guess its no surprise theyve delivered such a sweet re-work. Only two releases old and weve already got a veteran of Philadelphia International on board with one of Britains most innovative producers at the helm and a remix from a leading light in UK soul music. Were doing alright.
