DAOU Records (in association with KID Recordings) partners with Traxsource to deliver exclusive Expanded Deluxe Editions of Vanessa Daou's classic solo albums - 'Zipless (Songs From The Works Of Erica Jong)' [1994] and 'Slow To Burn' [1996] - featuring the remastered original albums alongside archival remixes from the period, many of which are either rare, out-of-print and/or previously unreleased digitally.
SLOW TO BURN:
Released in 1996 (via Krasnow Entertainment/MCA Records), Vanessa Daou's equally compelling sophomore album 'Slow To Burn' was a searing homage to influential female artisans like Billie Holiday, Gertrude Stein and Frida Kahlo, whose lives exemplified complete liberation, artistic or otherwise. A much headier and musically expansive work, the 11-track set radiates with creamy electronic textures and impeccable, jazz-edged electronic/organic arrangements (incorporating blues, gospel, R&B, Latin, dance and downtempo electronica) alongside Vanessa's smoky windswept vocals and poignant visceral lyrics, which alternate between themes of love, loss, longing, despair, fragility, seduction and empowerment. The result is a supple collection of sensuous late night vignettes that draw listeners curiously closer into their hazy embrace while hitting them with subtle jolts of electricity that illuminate its many dark corners and shadows. Highlights include "Two To Tango", "How Do You Feel", "Waiting For The Sun To Rise" and "Don't Explain".
This exclusive Traxsource Expanded Deluxe Edition includes the remastered original album alongside eight additional archival remixes from the period by Peter Daou and Tony Edwards, Mood II Swing (aka Lem Springsteen and John Ciafone) and Danny Tenaglia, including the long out-of-print "Two To Tango (Lotus Mix)", the Mood II Swing and Peter Daou-produced "Quick Burn" mixes of "How Do You Feel", and Tenaglia's seminal epic dancefloor workouts "Two To Tango (Valley Of The Daou Mix)" and "Two To Tango (Twilo Mix)".
