As the years have shown, you can’t keep the Style of Sound away from Emerald & Doreen for very long. And it’s easy to understand why. Germany’s Emerald and Doreen have a habit of releasing addictively good music, and like a tasty cocktail, you can never take just one sip. Following on from their first mix, London music magazine Style of Sound dived into the Emerald and Doreen’s latest collection of releases to create 84-minutes of pure bliss which traverse the diverse and different sounds which make Emerald & Doreen stand out amongst the world’s best indie and dance music labels. And what sounds are these you might be thinking? Style of Sound editor John Noi kicks off the mix with a catchy track from the Italo King of Hamburg Peter Zimmermann which slowly melts into two delicious disco tech remixes of The Sweeps and Go Satta by groove masters Disco Doubles. New comer Daytona then takes centre stage by providing breezy dance remixes of Drew Miller and Gabriel which climax into a summery remix of Club Domani by none other than synth extraordinaire Dim Zach. The mix then takes a pit stop at bar DHDS (dream house disco shoegaze) for a session with Sounds of Sputnik and Ummagma where someone attaches a disco ball to the ceiling, turning the room into a glittery dance floor where the likes of Liz Cirelli, Owen Ni and Grim Avenue take turns with the Headpocket, Finskit, and Beaman to give listeners a lesson in what good dance music actually sounds like. Hedonism then turns into euphoria where upbeat electronica from Jay Airness, Shenpen Senge + Choco Baresi, and Delta Omega command centre stage, topped off with some hot synth action from Daytona. Listeners are then slowly taken to the end of the mix in a dream-like haze provided by duo Yoshiyuki Ota & Maco Akoda. John says of the whole affair, “Going through the Emerald & Doreen back catalogue is like going into the best record store in the world. One can’t help but to be excited by all the brilliant sounds and hidden gems they are constantly curating!”
