A tribute to Orixás, the gods of the Yoruba faith originating in Nigeria and the New World, a masterful piece house magic featuring Brazilian vocalist Vera Mara. As the legend goes, Mara basically walked into the studio, had a listen to the beats, took the mic and started ad libbing to the groove in what sounded like a hybrid of Portuguese and Yoruba, delivering with such sparkling élan that even when the phone rang during recording, the producers could not bear to kill the take. Brilliantly mixed on the fly by producers Jerome Sydenham and Kerri Chandler, the record breaks down towards the end in a frenzy of rhythm served up to the gods. Mesmerizing.
