South Africa keeps bringing the business. Red9, another talented up and coming producer/multi-instrumentalist whose name comes from "the blood uniting all Nine provinces of South Africa," brings more electronic vibes to Dopewax on his debut EP, Giving Thanks To Music. This 4-track conceptual collection kicks off with the moody, floaty 9onoly Dub of "Incomplete," which is anything but, with its snapping percussion and psychedelic synths. This is followed by a collab with his alter-ego Kunzima and their Ancestral Tech Mix of "Tibuku Dance," that incorporates light native tech clav sounds with clappy percussion. Up next is his 9ology mix of "Fallen Angels" amidst elegant resonating light bells and string chords that almost seem to sing harmoniously to a snappy deep house beat. Rounding out the EP is the Afro Tech Mix of "Don't Be Afraid," a tune that delves into darker cinematic soundscapes. Solemn sounds never sounded so good.
